The Sancy Massif was formed five million years ago. The highest volcano of Sancy Massif (1,886m) dominates this vast natural territory. A land of water, the Sancy Massif boasts several crater lakes, such as Pavin and Chauvet and dammed lakes formed by lava flows, such as Chambon and Guery. Brooks and rivers abound in Sancy as in the Dordogne, with wet zones, peat bogs, as well as numerous waterfalls.
